These steady red LED obstruction lights meet or exceed FAA and ICAO standards at a lower cost than the L-810. They are also available with our Infrared (IR) Option for visibility to pilots using night vision. Our RTO lights feature a weather and corrosion resistant housing and come with a 5-year warranty. They are also easy to retrofit to existing installations, in place of incandescent assemblies.
The FAA advises that steady red obstruction lights be used on towers and communication obstructions from 50-2,200 ft. in height, which can pose a danger to small planes and helicopters at night. Steady red lights are advised up to 150 ft. in height, medium intensity flashing red or white lights up to 350 ft. high, and several levels of lights up to 1750 ft. See the FAA Advisory.
The low cost RTO Series obstruction light utilizes a unique optical, electrical, and mechanical design that makes it the most universal, compact, and efficient obstruction light in the world. RTO lights are ETL Certified to FAA requirements. They are also ICAO and Transport Canada compliant. RTO lights can also be ordered with an Infrared (IR) option that makes them visible to pilots using night vision (see below).
RTO obstruction lights are designed to withstand the most severe environments around the world. The base and housing are made from cast aluminum, and the aviation red dome is UV resistant polycarbonate. Blue, green, amber, or white LEDs are also available. RTO lights have been tested in temperatures ranging from -40 to +55 degrees Celsius, direct sunlight, wind-blown rain, wind in excess of 150 mph, high humidity, salt, and fog.
RTO lights are also available as a single retrofit fixture for direct replacement of incandescent lamp/lens technology.
Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) and Aviator’s Night Vision Imaging System (ANVIS) often employ Class A, B, and C filters. These filters can reduce LED sources that emit light in the visible spectrum. The Infrared (IR) option for RTO lights overcomes this obstacle by combining visible red LEDs and IR LEDs in a single unit.
