TowerLite Self-Illuminated Dual Obstruction Light

TowerLite
Self-Illuminated
Obstruction Lights

The patent pending TowerLite installs directly on powered lines next to monopoles to meet FAA & ICAO standards. The two LED obstruction lights draw power from the line. The spherical marker is made of aluminum and can be installed on powered lines rated up to 250° C (482° F) and 500KV.

Applications

The FAA recommends the use of steady red lighted markers with a minimum intensity of 32.5 candela on transmission line catenary wires near airports, heliports, across rivers, canyons, lakes, etc. The lighted markers should be installed on the highest energized line. If they are installed on a lower line (not more than 20 ft. away from the highest line), 36" markers such as our SpanGuard markers should be installed on the highest line. See the FAA Marker Advisory.

TowerLite is based on our industry standard SpanGuard aluminum power line markers, but adds two red LED lights on top of the spherical marker to meet FAA and ICAO standards. It mounts directly to live line adjacent to the monopole and draws power from the line.

LED Obstruction Lights

The two sealed, steady red LED obstruction lights used in TowerLite require 50 Amps (2,000 Amps maximum) to continuously generate 32.5 candela each. No separate power source is needed, making TowerLite well suited to remote locations where costly and less reliable solar installations might otherwise be needed. The LED technology ensures a long operating life of many years with little or no maintenance. Flashing LED lights and other colors are available.

High Temp & Voltage Rating

TowerLite markers are rated up to 250° C (482° F) and 500KV on ACSS lines, where plastic or fiberglass markers can melt or burn. Made from aluminum, the 12" diameter TowerLite is also lightweight, weighing just 26 pounds.

TowerLite Installation

TowerLite markers are straightforward to install. The lower half of the marker is installed on the line first, then the upper half is attached. The conductor runs directly through the center of the marker and the internal transformer. Rugged clamps hold the TowerLite in place. To further protect the line, spiral preform armor rods are recommended under the clamps.
