SquirrelGuard Applications

Many utilities have a problem when squirrels get on power lines. The squirrels run up to insulators and provide a short circuit to ground across the insulator. Not only is this hard on the squirrels, it leads to outages and costly repairs to the utility's equipment.

Our SquirrelGuard marker is a low cost way to both prevent damage and protect squirrels. It keeps squirrels from reaching transformers and sub-stations by putting a freely rotating sphere on the line that squirrels can't get past.

Construction & Installation

Made of durable ABS, the 9" SquirrelGuard sphere uses UHMW bearing surfaces that allow it to rotate under the weight of a squirrel, and it's big enough that the squirrel can't hang on and get around it. The sphere is held in position on the line by wrapping rubber stripping around the line to make 1-1/2" diameter stops on both sides of the sphere (see diagram).
