Aviation Obstruction Lights

The PRL-864 flashing red beacon was designed to easily interface into existing systems or to be provided as a red lighting fixture for new installations. The beacon is used to mark any obstacle that may provide hazards to aircraft navigation.

The PRL-864 LED (Light Emitting Diode) flashing red beacon is used as an obstruction beacon on the top of utility towers higher than 151 feet tall, and as intermediate beacons on all towers higher than 351 feet tall.

The PRL-864 is the first ETL certified LED based red beacon, meeting the FAA and ICAO intensity requirements, and generates no EMI/RFI.

The PRL-864 has major advantages over the 300mm commonly used incandescent beacons:

  • The PRL-864 LED beacons have a much longer life, guaranteed for five years, saving significant maintenance dollars over incandescent bulbs which have to be changed, at the top of the tower, every year or so.

  • PRL-864 LED beacons use much less power, using only 122 watts compared to the incandescent bulbs using up to 1600 watts. This power saving is especially important in remote installations where solar power is the economic choice for a power supply. The lower power requirement means 1/10 the number of solar panels are required.
