Many utilities have a problem when squirrels get on power lines. The squirrels run up to insulators and provide a short circuit to ground across the insulator.

Environmentally this is hard on the squirrels and expensive to the utility's equipment. The new SQUIRREL GUARD marker is designed to prevent squirrels from reaching transformers and sub-stations by providing a freely rotating sphere on the line to prevent squirrels from going any further on the line.

The 9" diameter sphere has teflon bearing surfaces that will allow the sphere to rotate underthe weight of a squirrel and thus prevent the squirrel from reaching vital insulators. The sphere is held in position on the line by wrapping rubber stripping around the line up to 1 1/2" positioned 1/2" outside of the sphere diameter, per drawing.
